Cash For Gold USA - R U SERIOUS?

20 08 2008

Came upon this TV ad through adfreak, and it truly amazes me.

The ad, which is real and appears on C4G’s website under “As Seen On TV”, encourages stealing gold from your dead and/or dying relatives. I love hearing the old woman go, “give me back my teeth!”

Stay away from me though, I have no gold fillings.

Considering I’m posting this on my blog, it’s reaching viral status and Cash For Gold has fulfilled its goal of becoming more well known.

Making a 49ers Guitar - FINISHED!!

18 08 2008

Well, I said the guitar would get done today, so I’m delivering.

We had to figure out a lot of minor details….like pickup placement and wiring…but now its done. The only thing that’s messed up is the pickup toggle switch; its backwards. No big deal, I always did it by sound anyway.

Here’s some pictures…if you’re my friend on facebook I’ll fill an album full of shots for you to check out.

Comments/Suggestions welcome on this guitar and the next one to follow!

It came together so well!

49ers Guitar - Sneak Peek

Couldn’t resist. Had to post this.

All that’s left is strings and sauldering the pickups to the knobs and switches. Should be done tonight.

Almost done!

Pandora Radio, is it done?

17 08 2008

Pandora Radio is one of the best things to ever hit the Internet. Especially if you’re a music fan.

I’ve been exposed to plenty of new artists since I started listening, and that has turned into actual purchases of concert tickets and CDs. Apparantly, that’s not good enough. SoundExchange, who represents recording artists and their greedy labels, is attempting to get even more money for each time Pandora plays a song. How does this even make sense?

The best way for a recording artist to make money is to go on successful tours, sell merchandise and become a recognized figure to for sponsorships and such, NOT sell records. The RIAA and SoundExchange’s business models are so broken. Pandora is basically spreading the word about their artists for free, in fact, currently they’re PAYING to spread their Clients’ art around.

FREE PUBLICITY. That’s not enough.

The music business sucks nowadays because the BUSINESS part is still taking over.

Ritchie Rozzelle’s Words of Wisdom

17 08 2008

On Friday I finished up my internship at CoyneBeahmShouse, and I was moved by all the nice compliments I received from every one on my last day. I know I’ll miss them, and I do hope I left a big enough impact that they’ll miss me.

I learned a lot about marketing and advertising, which is what I set out to do. But I also learned about working in real life and a lot about where I fit in.

Anyhoo, two co-workers and friends, Jennifer Dupell and Ritchie Rozzelle, decided to give me a going away present. Instead of just handing me a wrapped present, they hid it in the woods and gave me some coordinates and clues to go find it with Jenn’s GPS. It took a couple phone calls since Ritchie and Jenn (my gf)’s GPS didn’t want to match, but finally we stumbled upon on Saturday (Aug 15th) in the afternoon. It was a really nifty lamp and a old-school whistle inside.

"a tree with a V and some rocks you can see"

Also included were a picture of possible spoiler concepts for my car, and some words of wisdom from Ritchie himself. I’ll leave you with those…

“Now, go forth -
Be cool.
Be a dude.
Stay in school.
Don’t be lude
(in public).”

Thanks Ritchie and Jenn!

UNC Charlotte modeled on Google Earth?

13 08 2008

A friend of mine recently started modeling the campus of UNC Charlotte for Google Earth. Here’s a little sneak peak, you may recognize the building…

You can see Pizza Hut if you look closely enough.

If you’d like to help with this project and have the know-how, let me know and I’ll get you in touch with the right people!

Making a 49ers Guitar - Part 6 - Headstock

12 08 2008

Up until yesterday, we hadn’t decided on a design for the headstock. I didn’t want to paint it all black, but I definitely wanted some sort of design on it.

I gave Jenn a suggestion, especially since I wanted to keep it simple. I think the look will impress you all…

Just "49", really simple.

Just "49." Kept it simple.

And now both together….

A general idea of what it will look like!

Close Up of both together.

All that’s left now is a little cleanup and then the clear coat! Oh yah….electronics and all that jazz as well.

Oh geeze.

Making a 49ers Guitar - Part 5 - Airbrushing C-Pick

12 08 2008

This was the most difficult part of our endeavor, for sure.

None of us had ever done any airbrushing, but thanks to some nice people at AC Moore, we discovered Frisket Paper, which allowed us to cut the design out and then airbrush it on. I won’t describe the complete process, but let’s just say it was a lot of tape and frisket paper.

Check it out….

After all the paint was added, look at the mess!

Pretty amazing for our first try!

Pretty amazing for our first try!

If you look closely, you can see one error that arose when we pulled the tape off. Some green stuck to the tape, but that should be an easy fix. We’ll adjust a few of the lines and make it cleaner maybe as well, but there comes a point at which trying to fix it might end up making it worse.

Either way! It’s awesome!!!

Making a 49ers Guitar - Part 4 - Base White

12 08 2008

We did this base coat a while back, but I hadn’t added the pictures yet, so here we go.

After lots and lots of sanding and primer application, we put on our base coat of a slightly off-white color.

Some tips:
Make sure you get some really fine sandpaper to eliminate all scratches.
Double check that your primer can be “prepped” and not stripped by “Prep All”
Make your base coat thick, so you can sand it down.

Here’s some pictures:

Strings and Strap for the 49ers Guitar

11 08 2008

I’ve been terrible about updating this thing since I got back from Canada. In fact, I wrote a really long piece about this great guitar shop called Dot On Shaft, but I keep forgetting to bring the USB drive of pictures in from the car and upload the post.

Long story short, I found a great guitar strap and some strings for my soon-to-be completed 49ers Guitar. Check ‘em out:

Yes, those strings are GREEN!

How awesome is that? GREEN guitar strings! They’ll be perfect!
